Past Recipients


The following individuals were chosen as recipients of the 2012 APOL Musical Scholarship Fund:


2012 Scholarships:

    Ruth Picha: Ruth will graduate this June from York High School in Elmhurst and plans on attending Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi in the fall.

    She has been studying piano and percussion in school and privately since elementary school and is currently taking advanced placement classes in music theory and conducting.  She played snare drum in the marching band for three years, was captain of the drum line, sang solo and ensemble parts in the school musical Twelfth Night, played in the York steel drum band for two years, plays drum set and marimba as well.

    Marissa Poel: Marissa graduates this June from Westmont High School in Westmont and will attend Illinois State University this fall. For past six years she has studied clarinet with our APOL President Brian Patti and comes highly recommended by him.

    She has played in school’s marching, symphonic and jazz bands, the pit band for school musicals and the Westmont Community Band.  Vocally, Marissa has sung in the Madrigal ensemble, Concert and Jazz Choirs for her entire four years at Westmont High School.  She is currently assistant principal clarinet in the area’s Protégé Philharmonic.

    Brian Smith: Brian is eligible to receive his second $500 APOL scholarship this spring along with the $500 scholarship awards to both Ruth and Marissa.
